Patents are not a new thing. The idea has been around since as early as 500 BC. Back then people were encouraged to come up with new ideas, new luxuries if you will for living. If they did come up with an idea they were given about 1 year to sell and market their goods without having to deal with competitors. At that point, after one year, the patent ran out and everyone was free to sell that person’s invention if they wanted to.

These ideas of the patent then have been used throughout time. Different countries of course have different systems. But overall the basic concepts of someone coming up with an idea and having the rights to it for a certain amount of time have been lingering on through history.

Now the patent system has surely grown. Patents can even take years to get and in lots of cases people are unable to even get one. Maybe their patent is too close to another or the idea did not fall under what is patentable. No matter what, the system has been used throughout time. As far back in history that has been recorded, people have used a very similar system.
