Invent For You

When most people invent something they do so in hopes of making money. But what happens if you invent something that is totally for selfish reasons. -And why not. If you come up with a great idea on how to keep ice off your windows and love it, why not use it. No, you do not have to try and market it, but why not invent it and perfect it for your own use. Just because you have a new idea for something does not mean you end up having to try and manufacture them full scale to sell. There may be nothing wrong at all with using your own invention for yourself.

Filing a Patent

For those that have experienced it before, filing a patent is not as easy as it looks. Even those with tons of legal writing experience must ensure that their submission is unique. That is, it must be unique in the sense that it will stand out as a new product when reviewed for the government/patent office in the US.

Looking on the web, you may find plenty of writing services to choose from. You must really choose carefully. Filing a patent is not free. Also it can cost a great deal of money to have a patent filed and written for you. There are basic writing services that can provide you with a writer. Are they any good? Well, your research will have to be the judge in that. There are also attorneys that provide this service as well. Keep in mind that you still want to make sure you are choosing the right help. Just because they are an attorney, you want to make sure you get the right one for your application.

If you dare venture out to do it on you own, just make sure you are well studied up on what it is you are doing. One wrong move could delay your application for quite a long time. It can take years to get an approval back on a patent application, so get it right the first time.

Finding Future Technologies

So how do people do it? How do they find out what the next and latest technologies to hit the market will be? Many times by the patent that is filed. If a patent has been filed well in advance and approved for certain products before they are launched, then by doing a search of the latest patents filed you may discover some possible up and coming products. For example, Nokia has an exciting product that may be soon to hit the market here. They have filed a patent for the self charging cell phone. Something like this could certainly revolutionize the cell phone industry. Businesses can use this information for preparations for these types of products to hit the markets. New agencies love this in that they can talk about the news of the product well before it is launched. Once the patent has been approved and logged onto the US patent search system, it seems that everyone could know about the prospects that a new product is coming. So if you plan on filing and getting a patent on something, assume that it may be out there for the world to see. It is nice, however, that the patent does give you protection of the rights of your invention.

Patent Guarantees

So what does a patent on a product guarantee a consumer? Well, not very much depending on how you look at things. Patents are usually sought after by businesses to protect their ideas from others using or infringing on them. Many times consumers will think that when they see a product that says it has a patent that it will reflect on the quality they get. That just is not so usually. The patent office when it approves a patent application cannot build the product and test it; it is just not their job. Now certainly you may be able to feel out certain companies that seem to offer better quality products than others. But just because a patent was received on a product, does not mean that it is bullet proof.

So if you want protection in what you buy, you can start by making sure the warranty you receive on the product is solid and the terms are good. Beware of warranties that offer very little protection. You can then maybe head to the net and check out reviews written by consumers like yourself on products you’re considering buying. This can be a great way to see what others like you think.

Companies Always In Disputes

You may notice in the news that there always seems to be some kind of patent dispute going on between several companies. It also seems like this is a daily occurrence. Imagine all of the large companies that have suits against them. Then imagine the suits that you never see make the news that go on all of the time as well.

But what is it with some organizations. They always seem to be in some sort of trouble. They have companies coming at them left and right making claims that they have stolen some sort of invention or idea that they have patented. Is it that these businesses are in trouble because they are always knowingly infringing on others ideas? Or maybe is it because they are large multi million dollar a year companies? Companies that make a ton can be a huge target for all sorts of lawsuits. They can also afford to have to pay out on a case that goes against them if they must. Look around the news and see which companies are out there that always seem to be in some sort of trouble. Chances are there will be several that are always making the news.
